Networking Opportunities
Annual Conference - The SHRM
Annual Conference & Exposition features over 150 educational
sessions, a one-day student conference, and attendance of
more than 9000 professionals and 300 students. The
conference is held in June and national student members
receive special discounts to attend. Information is
available online and registration forms are mailed to all
national student members each January.
Member Directory Online -
Searchable database to locate SHRM professional members by
name, company, title, or geographic area.
HR Talk - A series of online
bulletin boards feature active discussions of HR and

HR Games Competition - A
Jeopardy-style competition featuring two of three college
students answering HR questions. SHRM student chapter teams

Scholarships - Two graduate
scholarships of $5,000 each and two undergraduate
scholarships of $2,500 each awarded to outstanding SHRM

How to join
Complete a student membership
application and submit it with payment to your chapter
representative or directly to SHRM. Student dues are $35 for
national membership or $50 for membership in both the
national SHRM and the SHRM Global Forum (formerly the
Institute for International Human Resources, IIHR). You will
receive one full year of service beginning at the time your
application is processed by the national office. Please
allow 4-6 weeks to process your application and remember to
keep your address current with the Society throughout the
membership year.
To join the student chapter at
UTA, fill out an application form available through the SHRM
web site, or from Professor Ken Wheeler (Academic Advisor)
in room 229 Business Building. Applications need to be
signed by the Academic Advisor before sending to SHRM.
Eligibility
Because the student dues rate
is subsidized by SHRM, the Board of Directors has
established qualifications for acceptance as a national
student member. To demonstrate eligibility, students
enrolled in only 6 to 9 credit hours must attached a copy of
a current course schedule to the application. You are
eligible for student membership if:

You are enrolled in the equivalent of at least six
(6) credit hours per term in a degree-seeking program.
§
Your coursework, taken or planned, supports a
demonstrated interest in HRM.
